Meet Matt Rexford from “Million Dollar Quartet”

Tell us a little bit about your past experience. Ever performed at Centre Stage?

My past experience at Centre Stage involves walking in the doors for two of their shows as a spectator. My last theater production was probably high school as I was an extra in Anne of Green Gables.

Tell us what it’s like to be playing such an iconic character! Were you intimidated by it? Tell us what you did to prepare to play this character?

Honestly I didn’t know too much about Jerry Lee before I took on the role. It has been fun to research his life and music. I read one of his biographies and watched many videos of his performances and interviews. It surely is intimidating to tackle portraying such a hurricane force of a performer.

Tell us about your favorite moment in the show!

One of my favorite moments in the show is the beautiful Peace in the Valley spiritual. Hearing all five voices blend together on the chorus is a change of pace from a lot of the other songs.

What do you do to get ready before a show? Any funny/weird superstitions?

I’m not sure yet. Ask me after opening.

If you could sit down to have lunch with any of the guys from MDQ, who would it be and why?

I think Elvis would be the most fun to have lunch with, especially if it was fat Elvis, then we could enjoy a nice buffet together! Jerry Lee was known for enjoying a good fight, so we’d probably end up in fisticuffs.

Anything else you’d like us to know?

I have so enjoyed the professional yet relaxed atmosphere of the cast and staff at Centre Stage. I hope you enjoy the show!
