Meet Josh Thomason from “Ghost: The Musical”

Tell us a little bit about your past theatre experience. Ever performed at Centre Stage?

Yes! This will be my third show at Centre Stage. I played the titular duo in Jekyll & Hyde: the Musical  last year and then I was lucky enough to be part of last year’s rock show, Juke Box Heroes.

Tell us about your character in the show.  What was your process in getting prepared for the role?

Carl Bruner is a banker that works in Manhattan with his best friend Sam. He is a bit of a departure from my own personality, in that he is confident, a bit of a narcissist, and exceedingly ambitious. My first thought when I read the script was how much he reminded me of a less exaggerated version of Patrick Bateman from the novel/movie American Psycho. Carl’s introductory number “More” really embodies a lot of the ideas that Bateman was meant to parody as it related to life in the late 80s and 90s.

“Ghost: The Musical” is based off the hit 1990 movie with Patrick Swayze, Demi Moore and Whoopi Goldberg.  What’s it like recreating such a loved story and characters?

Honestly, it’s been a challenge. At its core there is a story about love, but this musical adaptation attempts to reach beyond that and tell a story about love, loss, and trust. How do you deal with the loss of a loved one? What is it like to watch the life you had continue on without you? I believe Sam gets presented with an opportunity to see who his loved ones are when he is gone, and since everything in this production is from his perspective the audience gets to accompany him on this journey.

This show takes place in the 90’s, which seem to be making a huge comeback lately.  What is your favorite 90’s fashion trend that is coming back today?

Fashion? Trends? I didn’t realize there was going to be a test.

Centre Stage is producing the Regional Premiere for “Ghost: The Musical”. What is it like working on and bringing a brand new show to the Upstate community?

It is very exciting! I think everyone in the production is really working hard to make this show the best it can be. The special effects should a spectacle worth writing home about and I can’t wait to be a part of such a production-heavy show.

Anything else you’d like our audiences to know about you?

I have two beautiful cats and a loving wife Morgan (who is also in this show!!) and you can see the Thomasons again in the upcoming rock show this winter! Also, shout out to my parents who you all will probably meet as they are coming to see this show every night. Thanks Centre Stage for another amazing opportunity!
