Internship Opportunities
Gain experience with an internship!
The below internships were previously offered at Centre Stage. Please contact the Managing Artistic Director, Laura Nicholas, at Laura.Nicholas@centrestage.org for current opportunities.
Front of House/Office-Based Internships
The Front-of-House/Office Internship is designed for individuals who may or may not have a background in theatre but who are interested in observing and experiencing firsthand the day-to-day business of a professional producing theater. Responsibilities cover a wide range of inter-related areas in the fields of company and patron relations. Duties may include assisting in the research and development of specific projects in marketing and fundraising; providing customer service support in the box office, working with staff on the reading and evaluating of new scripts, assisting the house manager during performances, and providing general support throughout the organization. Candidates should have a warm personality, the ability to work cooperatively in a team, excellent written and oral communication skills, basic computer skills, be detail-oriented and self-motivated; and have a great sense of humor.
Production-Based Internships
Production-Based Internships are designed for individuals interested in a “behind the scenes” approach to theater. Interns may assist in any and all aspects of creating and maintaining sets, props, costumes, lighting, production paperwork or attending rehearsals for Centre Stage productions. Duties may include carpentry, metal work, load in/out, set strikes, sewing, rigging, hanging and focusing lights, running shows, and assisting in the scene shop or the props and costumes shop. Applicants may also have the opportunity to shadow designers, technicians, or stage managers at the production manager’s discretion. General production responsibilities will be supplemented with concentrations in various areas based on interest and skill. Available concentrations are: Stage Management, Costumes, Props, Lights, and technical theater. Previous experience in the requested concentration is not necessary, but may be preferred for specific projects.
These two general tracks are available, but interns will still be given the opportunity to interact with all departments to gain a well-rounded understanding of the theater industry and may be asked to assist in other areas. For this reason, flexibility, strong organizational skills, communication skills, and enthusiasm are required for all positions.
