Meet the “Jekyll and Hyde” Cast! Katrina Gass has appeared in many Centre Stage shows, and plays “Nancy” in our new musical! Katrina takes time to talk to us about her excitement to be back with Centre Stage and her multifaceted character in her blog post! Read on below…
How does it feel returning to Centre Stage? Could you tell us about your past roles with CS?
It feels wonderful to be back! I had the opportunity to play “Colby” in Smudge, a Fringe show in 2014. I had my son in 2015, and now I’m finally back on stage! Centre Stage is wonderful to work with, and I’m always being stretched and growing as a performer.
Please tell us a bit about your character(s) and connecting to the role.
Throughout this show I play a newsboy, a maid (briefly), and a prostitute. This is the second time I’ve played a young boy, and I love it because it brings me completely out of myself and gives me so much freedom to try new things. As the prostitutes, we look like we’re having a good time performing and getting attention from our customers, but later, it’s clear that they are driven by desperation and they realize just how trapped they are. I appreciate how this musical shows the “glamorous” facade of prostitution and then tears it away to show the difficulty of that life.
What are some of your favorite parts so far working with this script and cast?
We have a great camaraderie, and I really appreciate the experienced dancers being willing to help those of us with very little experience!
In the spirit of good vs. evil, who is your favorite villain?
There are so many amazing villains out there! I love villains who are presented as complex, real people rather than purely evil, because that’s so much more true to life. Off the top of my head, I would have to pick “Javert” from Les Miserables.
Jekyll and Hyde: The Musical is on stage October 20-November 12 and can be purchased by clicking the Tickets Tab at the top of the page!
