Meet the “Jekyll and Hyde” Cast! Celia Blitzer has appeared in many Centre Stage shows, and plays “Nellie” in our new musical! Celia takes time to talk to us about her dedication to Centre Stage and her saucy character in her blog post! Read on below…
How does it feel returning to Centre Stage? Could you tell us about your past roles with CS?
It’s always a pleasure working at Centre Stage. CS is my SC theater home because it’s the first theater I performed at after moving here from MD. Since moving here I have been in The Producers (Shirley Markowitz), Shout (Orange Girl), and The Addams Family (Grandma Addams) at Centre Stage.
Please tell us a bit about your character(s) and connecting to the role.
“Nellie” is the Madame of the Red Rat. She runs the bar and is in charge of all the “ladies” that work there. We aim to please. Whatever suits your fancy. “Nellie”, and I are both quick-witted and love to throw out one liners.
What are some of your favorite parts so far working with this script and cast?
I am glad Glenda stuck close to the original script. It had been revised so many times over the years, and I think the original is the best. The music is surprisingly challenging. I love getting to work with some familiar faces and learn from those actors that are new to me.
In the spirit of good vs. evil, who is your favorite villain?
I’ll stay clear of politicians and stick with Disney. “Ursula” from The Little Mermaid is my favorite villain. She’s big, loud, and powerful.
Jekyll and Hyde: The Musical is on stage October 20-November 12 and can be purchased by clicking the Tickets Tab at the top of the page!
